Simon Cowell on Becoming a Father: ‘It’s Incredible’

“I like the idea of having a little buddy”

“I like the idea of having a little buddy”

In an interview due to be aired on Monday ‘Extra’s’ Terri Seymour sat down with soon-to-be father and “X Factor” judge Simon Cowell, who opened up about becoming a father and his relationship with Lauren Silverman.

Simon admitted finding out about the baby was a shock at first. “The baby was kind of unexpected. I hadn’t planned for that. Once I got used to it I kind of thought, it’s actually not such a big deal. I know the circumstances were a bit awkward, very awkward, but once you see the baby on the scan for the first time you’re just amazed that you’re seeing something alive. It’s incredible.”

Simon described seeing the baby’s ultra sound. “I called it ‘Tad’ because it was like a little tadpole, just like moving around. It really is a miracle. I never felt like that before.”

Cowell added his mom was thrilled. “She couldn’t get wait to put the phone down so she could tell everyone.”

He went on to talk about his relationship with Lauren Silverman, saying she is very special but has had a rough time in the press because of the circumstances. Cowell explained, “I can understand why people said negative things about me and her because obviously she was married and this was not a typical situation. She’s a great girl. We started as friends, and it turned into something else.”

As for what kind of dad he’ll be, Simon smiled, “Maybe I will take him or her go-carting. I’m good with kids, and I like kids. Babies, I have a little problem with because I never know how to hold them, but I like the idea of having a little buddy. I’m looking forward to when they can talk.”

The music mogul isn’t only getting ready for fatherhood, but also the new season of “The X Factor” with two new judges, saying he is much happier with it then previous seasons. “It does feel different then the first two series. I thought the first two series were quite dark. This is much lighter, funnier. Maybe it’s the girls or it’s me, it just feels more like the British show.”

Tune in to “Extra” on Monday for more of the interview! “The X Factor” premieres Wednesday on FOX.

Simon Cowell’s Baby With Lauren Silverman Will Be Born In Britain

The Sunday People reports today Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman’s baby will be born in the UK.

The baby, due next February, will be born in a London hospital while Simon records the audition stages of Britain’s Got Talent.

Lauren and Simon made the decision after working out their busy schedules.

Despite Lauren being American and living in New York, the couple decided the best option is for the baby to be born in Britain.

The hospital is likely to be one close to the X Factor boss’s west London mansion.

After giving birth Lauren will move into Simon’s home in Holland Park where the family will live until they return to the States in June once BGT is over.

A source close to Simon said: “He is thrilled that the baby will be born in England. He and Lauren have taken a decision based on what is best for the baby and they’ve chosen the UK.

“Because Simon has to be in the UK for BGT at that time, it is the only option. He wants to be at Lauren’s side when she gives birth and wants to be with his son after he’s born.

“They’re now looking carefully at which hospital they will use.

“It is most likely to be a private hospital so that Lauren can have an obstetrician with her throughout the birth.”

Simon’s £8million mansion is just a stone’s throw from St Mary’s hospital where the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to Prince George in the ultra-posh Lindo Wing. Giving birth there can cost up to £10,000.

Another option is Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital, a celebrity favourite.

The third possibility is the Portland, where Victoria Beckham gave birth to her eldest sons Brooklyn and Romeo.

Simon Cowell on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno And A Preview Of Simon’s Interview With Ellen

Simon Cowell on Leno

Simon Cowell appered on The Late Show with Jay Leno last night where yet again another interview was dominated by baby talk.

Leno opened the interview saying I’ve known you what, 12 or 15 years? I never thought I’d say this: congratulations! You’re going to be a dad! That’s amazing!’

Simon replied ‘Am I? Yeah, that was a bit of a shocker. When you first get the call, it’s like, OK, put the phone down, gulp. And then I got used to the idea.

Still remaining coy on whether baby is a boy or girl, Simon would only confirm that it’s, ‘One of the two. While he managed not to spill the closely-guarded secret, Simon admitted, ‘I do know what it is,’ before talking about his hopes for his offspring.

‘If it’s a boy, I kind of hope he turns out like me as I was older, not when I was child – cause when I was a child I was obnoxious,’ he laughed.

Simon also prerecorded an interview with Ellen Degeneres yesterday where the baby was the main topic.

Ellen questions the star about his reaction to the surprise news that he’s going to be a dad, to which Simon responds that he’s feeling great about the prospect despite the initial public scrutiny.

‘Oh my god, this is exciting and this is going to be a bit of a nightmare for the next few weeks – because everyone knows it was well documented,’ he says. ‘It was kind of uncomfortable, you know, the situation.

‘But these things happen and everything is kind of calm now and I’m happy. I’m actually happier than I’ve ever been.’

Asking how Lauren is coping with the very public situation, Simon says the 36-year-old is ‘in a really good place’.

Simon Cowell has hit back at disparaging rumours about his baby mama, Lauren Silverman – insisting she’s not a gold-digger.

‘I obviously can’t blame the media – it was kind of what I call a juicy story,’ he says. ‘But there was a lot of stuff that was said about her: that she trapped me and that she’s a gold-digger. It’s absolute nonsense. She’s a great girl but, like I said, it was awkward because of the circumstances.’

Ellen soon has the dad-to-be in hysterics when she presents him with a mini-me outfit for his ‘son’.

The jeans and white v-neck top are the spitting image of Cowell’s signature style, while she also tosses in tiny father and son matching black round-neck tees for good measure.

Simon Cowell’s Personal UK Make Up Artist Julia Carta Talks About Working With Simon

Julia Carta

Julia Carta

Julia Carta chats to The Daily Star about working with Simon and how his baby news shocked everyone close to him.

Despite being his make-up artist and close confidante for 12 years, Julia has always refused offers to join the gaggle of girlfriends on his famous yacht.

Now, as Simon’s surprise baby news rocks his showbiz clique, Julia lifts the lid on his hectic world of parties, holidays and top telly shows.

She says: “I keep getting invited on his yacht, but I turn it down. I have a boyfriend – I don’t want to get involved with all that. It’s not my cup of tea.”

But 38-year-old Julia is certainly close to Simon, which is hardly a surprise.

And she has more than a passing resemblance to his ex-girlfriends Mezghan Hussainy, 40 (also his make-up artist), Terri Seymour, 38, and Jackie St Clair, 52.

“I don’t know why he always surrounds himself with brunettes,” Julia says with a wry smile. “He definitely has a type. But that’s a question for him, not me.”

Simon famously holidays with his harem – which also includes Sinitta, 49 – on the £40m Slipstream boat every year. It’s where the 53-year-old is said to have first hooked up behind her husband’s back with Lauren Silverman, soon to be the mother of his baby.

Julia says: “I won’t travel with Simon because I don’t want to be one of the harem. I’m not part of the harem. People might say I am, but I am not. I’m much happier behind the camera than in front of it.”

Julia confirms that the pregnancy wasn’t exactly planned.

“Everyone was shocked to hear Simon was going to be a dad,” she says. “None of us expected it to happen. Even Simon didn’t ever expect it to happen.”

Although they have no plans to wed, Simon has vowed to stick by Lauren, 36, and the pair have recently been cosying up together in the South of France.

“He introduced me to Lauren earlier this week when they were in London,” Julia reveals. “She was very sweet and excited. I thought she was nice.”

And of the number one woman in the supremo’s life, his mother Julie, she beams: “Simon’s mum is amazing. She’s absolutely thrilled. She’s ridiculously excited because she never thought it would happen for Simon. But it has and I hope everyone is happy for him.”

Julia works her magic on Simon during Britain’s Got Talent this year.

We’re gossiping at a top London hotel where Julia is giving me a makeover using the new range from Sheer Cover make-up, a brand she swears by for her A-list client.

“I love being a make-up artist – people confide everything to you,” she tells me as she dusts over some of the new range’s mineral powder.

She is confident about her position, and says there is no rivalry with Mezghan.

“She is his US make-up artist and America is her domain,” says Julia. “I’m his make-up artist when he’s here in the UK. But there’s no rivalry. I turned down going to the US with him.”

Despite recent reports that Simon didn’t want to change nappies and speculation he didn’t want to be a hands-on dad, Julia believes he will love being a father.

“He’ll be an amazing dad,” she says. “Of course he’s going to have to learn to change nappies. Welcome to the real world, Simon! That’s a big part of it for him now. Men have to change nappies, though – he will. You learn fast and become immune to the smell.

“I will be stocking up concealer for him in case he has lots of late sleepless nights

“He loves kids and he is very good with children. He will thoroughly enjoy the challenge of being a dad. He’ll make an brilliant father.”

Julia, who works with the star on all of his big TV projects including X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, says that behind the scenes, Simon is a delight.

“He’s so easy to be around,” she says. “In the make-up chair he just likes a bit of primer, concealer, powder and lots of bronzer. Oh, he likes to be tanned.

“Simon’s old-fashioned and wouldn’t wear guy liner or mascara or anything. He has lovely long natural eyelashes anyway.

“He takes his skin-care regime seriously and likes to look fresh and radiant. Simon loves a bath. He spends hours in there and I’m always chucking new products at him to try.

“Simon’s made the show such a phenomenon and I can’t believe it’s in his 10th year and how things have changed.

“I’m so proud of what I do. Simon’s always been very good to me.”
