The TV and film producer, music label boss and internationally-renowned talent show judge will receive his award at a gala dinner for industry executives at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes on Tuesday 14 October. On Monday 13 October, Cowell will give a keynote interview in the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals.

One of the best-known faces on TV screens in the world, Cowell has transformed popular culture in the 21st century through his wide-reaching TV and music enterprise.

“Simon Cowell is a visionary producer whose television franchises are on air in almost 200 territories around the world, underlining his status as a global creative icon. In recognition of his amazing career as a creator of international formats and his formidable impact on the entertainment industry as a whole, we are honoured to welcome him to Cannes as the MIPCOM 2014 Personality of the Year,” said Paul Zilk, CEO of Reed MIDEM, organiser of MIPCOM.

Cowell’s Syco Entertainment is a world-renowned music, film, and television production company responsible for some of the most successful global music and television franchises. Syco’s television assets include the two international phenomenon formats: “Got Talent” and “The X Factor” both created by Simon Cowell. The Syco Music roster includes stars such as One Direction, Little Mix, Susan Boyle, Ella Henderson, Il Divo, Labrinth, Cher Lloyd, Fifth Harmony, Alex & Sierra, and Collabro.

Under Cowell’s stewardship, Syco Entertainment continues to develop global TV formats that have appeal throughout the TV, Film and digital world.

In April, “Got Talent” was officially named the World’s Most Successful Reality Television Format by The Guinness Book of Records. Alongside Syco’s longstanding co-production partner, FremantleMedia, original versions of Got Talent are now being produced in 62 territories worldwide. Emmy-nominated “America’s Got Talent” has been the No.1 rated summer programme ever since its launch in June 2006. Now in its ninth consecutive season, the show currently airs in 193 countries worldwide.

“The X Factor” is now produced in 49 territories around the world since its launch in the UK in 2004 where it remains the #1 entertainment show and a cultural phenomenon. In August 2013, Cowell produced his first feature film, “One Direction: This Is Us.” The movie debuted at No.1 at both the US and UK box offices, before going on to enjoy international success.

For his newest take on the singing competition genre, Cowell has teamed up with Univision to create “La Banda,” a series which will search the US and Latin America for the next Latino boy band in 2015. Mel B Spices Up The X Factor!

Spice Girl Melanie B joins Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh. Dermot O’Leary is back as host

The nation’s most talked about entertainment show today (11th June 2014) confirms its brand new judging panel with Spice Girl Melanie B becoming the fourth and final judge.

As part of the biggest selling female group of all time and the cultural phenomenon, which was The Spice Girls, Mel B has notched up a stunning 80 million record sales worldwide, including nine UK No.1s. She also has five prestigious BRIT Awards to her name.

Mel’s signing comes after she appeared as a guest judge on The X Factor in 2012, where she lived up to her scary nickname with her straight talking approach.

Talking about joining the panel Mel B says: “I’m so excited to be joining The X Factor – I loved being a guest judge back in 2012. I’ve always thought honesty is the best policy when being a judge and that’s what I’m going to bring more of this year – whether it’s spotting an incredible singer, giving someone a reality check or debating with Simon over who’s got it wrong! Now I can’t wait to get started and find some amazing talent.”

The X Factor creator, Simon Cowell, says: “I am thrilled that Mel B has agreed to be a judge on The X Factor this year. I thought she was fantastic as a guest judge a couple of years ago. She is feisty, opinionated and, I believe, will be a great mentor.”

Mel B will join renowned music manager Louis Walsh, who returns for another series. As previously announced, they are joining Simon and pop princess Cheryl Cole, who both make a celebrated return to the show for the first time since 2010.

The judges will be joined by award-winning broadcaster and presenter Dermot O’Leary, who is back to preside over the talent, tears and drama, while providing support to the aspiring stars.

Louis Walsh says, “It should be a fun year this year with both Simon and Cheryl returning and I think Mel will keep us all on our toes, she is Scary Spice after all.”

Dermot O’Leary says, “Mel was great as a guest judge a couple of years ago and she certainly doesn’t mince her words. With Mel on the panel, along with Simon, Cheryl and Louis, I’ll have my hands full – we’re going to be in for an exciting year.”

Filming for the new series begins next week with an audition tour taking place in four cities across the UK – Manchester, London, Newcastle and Edinburgh. Once again hopefuls will have to tackle two sets of audition rounds, starting with the intimate closed rooms in which they find themselves eyeball-to-eyeball in front of the judges. If they impress and get three or more yeses, they must then sing in an arena to prove they can impress a live audience.

Simon Cowell Confirms They Have Settled On A Fourth X Factor Judge and Asks 1D Fans To Stay Loyal

Footage published online, which appeared to have been filmed by Louis Tomlinson during their tour in Peru, seemed to show him smoking cannabis with bandmate Zayn Malik.

Some fans of the boyband have criticised them but Cowell spoke in their favour during the Health Lottery fundraising event in London on Monday.

He said: “What I can say is, I’ve worked with the boys for a long time. They are the hardest working boys I’ve ever worked with, they still haven’t changed, they’re really respectful to their fans, they’re hard working, they’re a great British export, but that’s all I can really say.”

Asked if their fans would support them, he said: “I hope the fans stay loyal but that’s all I can really say.

“I’ve worked with a lot of artists in the past who do lose the plot and do lose respect for their fans and forget who put them there – they’ve never done that. They really do love their fans so I can only talk about my own personal relationship with them and they’ve been a joy to work with.”

Simon also said he had “settled” on the fourth judge for the next series of the X Factor. The choice will join Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh on the panel.

He said: “We’ve settled on someone and we’re going to make an announcement this week. It’s not just finding a name, it’s someone who’s going to do the job.

“They’ve got to really commit to the artists and that’s why it’s been a long decision. It’s a female.”

Simon Cowell’s First Animation Film Will Feature One Direction

z22-bandw-simon-onedirection

Just like The Beatles’ hugely successful Yellow Submarine, Harry Styles and co will star in a series of music animations.

Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment aims to appeal to new fans as young as five by cashing in on a deal with Animal Logic Entertainment according to the Star on Sunday.

The Australian-owned animation and special effects studio is behind a string of box office hits including The Lego Movie.

Boss Zareh Nalbandian said: “This is a perfect fit of complementary talents.”

Syco said in a statement last week that the partnership would “develop music-based animated and hybrid films”.

Simon, added: “The music has to be current.”

The boy’s  flourishing Hollywood career is set to win a new army of fans with at least two – and possibly more – full-length animated films next year and in 2016.

The boys will reportedly appear as cartoon characters and will also provide the voices.

A senior studio source said: “Simon wants to see almost a reinvention of the whole genre, with storylines woven around the boys’ songs and, eventually, songs written to specific storylines with spin-off albums.

“It’s an incredibly exciting prospect that may involve a mix of animation and live action. The animated stories will also free up One Direction to focus on this year’s Where We Are stadium world tour which is tipped to eclipse those of U2 and The Rolling Stones as the most profitable in history.
