Cheryl Cole said X Factor boss Simon Cowell grovelled to to get her back on the show – after firing her from the US version.
Talking exclusively to Mark Jefferies from the Daily Mirror at the press conference in London today Cheryl said: “There’s only so much begging one can take. It’s not nice to see a grown man cry. It went on a few years.
“It was uncomfortable. If you’d asked me the previous two years I’d have said, ‘Absolutely not’.
“This year it just feels right.”
Cheryl did manage to joke about her fashion disasters in the states.
She said: “I considered Orange and red for today and was going to go with super big huge hair, but I’ll save it for the first show.”
Cheryl and Simon were reunited in London, to announce her £1.5million deal – as exclusively revealed in the Daily Mirror.
Simon Cowell joked it took him “2000 calls” to get Cheryl back. And he admitted firing her in 2011 after only one episode of the US X Factor was a terrible mistake.
“I was wrong and I don’t mind admitting it.”
He added: “I wanted to come back to the UK show and the first person I wanted to be on it with was Cheryl.
“I know we had a massive fallout but I do consider Cheryl to be a friend. I trust her and she’s loyal.”
He and Cheryl will choose the rest of the panel, he said, now that Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger have both quit.
Not even Louis Walsh is safe, he added: “We’ll make the decision together. We must work as a team.
“Absolutely she will be involved.”
Simon also confirmed Dermot O’Leary will be back presenting and auditions would start in a closed room before the arena stage.
And the six-chair challenge will stay at the end of boot camp.
Talking of life with his baby son Eric, he added: “Amid the chaos there is calmness. I love him, I love Lauren. I feel my life has evolved into something else.
“I am the happiest I have been in my life. I feel I have a purpose.”
