Cowell left the UK on private jet this morning, rushing to be by Lauren’s bedside. Friends of the pair stressed Lauren was not yet in full labour but showing “early signs”.

Simon, who attended the first three days of Britain’s Got Talent auditions in London, missed the final day as he jumped on a jet which he had on standby to fly him to New York once Lauren went into labour.

Lauren’s mother Carole Sandland is thought to be traveling from her home in Florida  to be on hand when the newborn arrives.

The news has come as a surprise to Simon as Lauren was due to give birth on February 28 in one of Manhattan’s most exclusive hospitals.

Once their baby arrives they will bring him home to the apartment they are renting in Manhattan.

Good luck to Simon and Lauren, we eagerly await the birth of Simon Jnr.  We will keep you updated with news as it happens.
